Mar 2, 2009 Senator Carol Liu has introduced APPEC sponsored legislation -- SB 489. This bill will be amended in the next week to include a comprehensive proposal for state statute regarding private colleges and universities in California. |
| Mar 2, 2009 Assemblymember Portantino has introduced AB 48, to reestablish the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education within the Department of Consumer Affairs. This legislation will be heard in the Assembly Higher Education Committee on March 17. |

May 3, 2008 Both bills, SB 823 (Perata) and AB 2746 (Niellos), are currently in the Assembly Appropriations Committee. The plan is for SB 823 to be amended through negotiations with the Governor's office, consumer advocate groups, and representatives of the private postsecondary institutions. |
